Over the years, the calibre and commitment of the CIB leadership team has been a key contributor to our evolution and growth. Collectively, they set the pace for the business and hold themselves accountable to not only our stakeholders but to the betterment of our industry as a whole.
Douglas Donnelly - CEO
CIB founder, Douglas Donnelly has been an active and highly respected participant in the insurance industry since 1990. As CEO, he has provided the leadership needed to guide CIB from a brokerage, to an administration hub for brokers, to an underwriting manager and ultimately a risk-carrying service provider.
Douglas believes strongly in an ‘how can we make this work for you’ approach, naturally balanced by conservative underwriting.
His entrepreneurial spirit has challenged many of the industry’s perceived ‘established ways’ to build a brand that has become well-known for its commitment to service excellence.
Steven Munro - Chief Financial Officer
Steven is a qualified Chartered Accountant, (CA(SA), and completed his articles with Nolands Incorporated.
He joined the CIB team in 2006 as Financial Manager, assuming the role of Chief Financial Officer in 2013. Steven’s responsibilities stretch well beyond the area of Finance to include Information and Communications Technology.
Jon-Jon Smit - Executive Head: Sales & Marketing
Jon-Jon began his career at M&F as a claims consultant. In just two years, he become a broker consultant for both personal and commercial business. He then moved to Guardian National as Commercial Sales Manager, before joining Alexander Forbes Risk Services as Regional Sales Manager.
Jon-Jon’s CIB journey started in 2001 when he was appointed as Commercial Sales Manager. He is now part of the Executive Team and serves as CIB’s Executive Head- Sales & Marketing. Jon-Jon is responsible for broker distribution, new business nationally and marketing. His passion and extensive sales experience, acquired over more than 25 years in the industry in a sales capacity, unlock innumerable doors for new business opportunities.
Wilhelm von La Chevallerie - Managing Director
A Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa, Wilhelm’s career began in Germany, where he developed insurance software at FJA Munich.
In 2000, Wilhelm joined Hollandia Re (now Hannover Re Africa) in Johannesburg. He was later seconded to Compass Insurance Company as Chief Underwriting Officer, managing a number of UMAs. Thereafter he joined EMB (an actuarial consulting firm) as a director of the South African office before joining CIB in 2010.
Wilhelm was appointed CIB’s Managing Director in 2013.
Wilhelm’s career has presented him with a very unique understanding of the short-term market gained from a variety of perspectives. His vision is to grow the CIB Brand by continuing to build on its unparalleled understanding of the broker market.
Elsa Jordaan - Executive Head: Claims & Legal
Elsa has been a trusted advisor to many insurers, underwriters, and brokers in South Africa on cyber risks, insurance policy wordings and coverage issues. She is well-respected in the cyber liability and data protection space, and has become a sought-after speaker and author, continually raising awareness around these key emerging trends affecting our industry.
Elsa holds a B. Com (Law) degree, an LLB (Cum Laude) degree from the University of Pretoria, and a certificate in Medical Law. She has been a partner at both Clyde & Co and Webber Wentzel, acquiring more than 15 years experience in insurance litigation and alternative dispute resolution. She joins us most recently from Norton Rose Fulbright where she was a director specialising in general insurance and dispute resolution, advising on a range of insurance matters including professional indemnity, computer crime/cyber liability, aviation, medical malpractice, personal injury, and public liability.
